A snowy April day

Have I mentioned (I'm sure I have!) that you're supposed to use your lights even during the day whenever it's snowing, raining, foggy or the like? Clearly somebody's not paying attention, because I saw (saw rather than hit, fortunately, but it was close!) more than one vehicle this morning with drivers who were ignoring this rule. Please, let me remind you ... This is not merely a suggestion, it is a commandment! Turn on your dang lights when it's snowy out there so people can see you for heavens sakes! Thank you.

Red Letter Day

Hey, not only are we having a special time and date occasion today, but all of my notable encounters on the road this morning were good ones. And that's a red letter day for me no matter what time it is.

First, I came up behind a lumber truck that had smiley faces painted on the back (charming!) AND he turned the other way so I didn't get stuck following him slowly for a long time. Then, not more than a mile down the road, a small car pulled out in front of me and moved right along, not causing me the slightest inconvenience. Thanks, BOOG! And by the way, nice earrings!

Guzzling slightly less gas by 2011...Wowee!

OK, I guess it's nice that they're trying to do a little something, but does it seem like just a touch too little too late? Yes, it does. A fleetwide average of 24 mpg by 2011 doesn't seem like that much of a stretch goal, does it? Of course we are throwing the light trucks and SUVs into the mix which make the measly extra 2 mpg more impressive, but still...

The biggest mystery of all, however, is: "Why the devil aren't we Americans smart enough to figure this out and do it on our own without forcing the Congress to make up the rules for us?" Huh? It's more than a little embarrassing, isn't it? Yes, it is.
