Is it the cold?

Wouldn't you think that on a 36 mile drive, just at random there would be the occasional moment when there wasn't somebody in front of you poking along and holding up traffic? Usually that's true, but I could swear that just this week it seems to have all changed for some unaccountable reason. And it wasn't just on the road; there was an apparently confused pickup truck wandering about in my path in the parking garage, for heavens sake! You know, it is a little colder this week. Do you suppose that cars are like little molecules that slow down when it's colder? Well, I guess the phony scientific angle is as good an explanation as any.

Safety's nice but...

New York, New Jersey, and Washington D.C. have all passed bans on driving with a cell phone. And I believe I read that Connecticut has just jumped on the bandwagon and Pennsylvania is thinking about it. While I don't disagree that driving and chatting on the phone are not the best combo from a safety perspective, I'm not sure why cell phones should be singled out when there are so many other distractions, kids for example, that can be every bit as dangerous. We aren't going to ban kids in cars, are we? Snacks? Smoking? Oh please, not coffee!!!
